The Sarasota Y’s Youth Shelter provides temporary housing and safe care for Southwest Florida youth ages 10 to 17 who have run away, are experiencing family conflict or have been locked out of their homes.
They also offer respite services for parents who are having a difficult time with their child. They have a Master's Level Residential Counselor and a Case Manager who provide individual, group and family counseling.
At the shelter, teens live in a family-like atmosphere, with care from well trained and dedicated staff members. The youth receive daily transportation to and from school and after school tutoring. They also participate in educational and recreational activities.
At the end of care, both teen and the family are referred to an appropriate after care counselor or program to continue the healing process. The goal is to teach both the parents and the youth appropriate behaviors that will strengthen their family upon return to the home.
They are also a "Safe Place " facility.
