The Red Shield Lodge is The Army's 220 bed residential shelter facility. About 10 beds are reserved for emergency overnight shelter for a maximum three nights stay. Other beds in the shelter are for residents who agree to a case managed program, including classes and training with the end goal of attaining housing and employment. Single women, women and/or men with children, or families may enter the Family Services Unit (residential shelter) for 45 days or longer. Casework and counseling are components of the family shelter program. Whether it is financial assistance planning and job placement for young, single mother living in our shelter or a transitional facility; health care for a family dealing with disease; or counseling and advocacy for a victim of spousal abuse; Case Management programs at the Army in Lee County are called Comprehensive Care and Comprehensive Aftercare and they provide participants the following: life skills classes such as budgeting, parenting and anger management classes; vocational assessments, evaluations and training; GED classes; employment counseling; domestic violence counseling; substance abuse counseling; mental health counseling, housing placement assistance. The Army also offers services to non-resident for medical attention, employment, and housing assistance through the emergency food pantry / food bank.
