Charlotte HIV/AIDS People Support, (CHAPS) is an all volunteer organization whose purpose is to provide supplemental food and hygiene products at no cost to persons in need living with HIV/AIDS and their dependents. CHAPS serves qualified persons living in Charlotte, Desoto and South Sarasota Counties. Qualification consists of screening and referral by the local health departments or the Comprehensive Care Clinic to verify health and economic status. CHAPS is a "choice" food pantry which allows clients to choose food items that meet their changing dietary needs. The hygiene items provide personal care and help to maintain a sanitary environment. The food and hygiene items enhance the lives of clients by helping to keep them nourished and better able to fight off infections.
